Our Recommendation…

ALPS Mountaineering Compression Sleeping Bag

The ALPS Mountaineering Compression Sleeping Bag Stuff Sack comes as described. Although it may be a little challenging to get the correct size for your purpose, it is very well constructed with the D-rings, carrying handle and additional pocket coming in very handy.

It’s a great space saver if you currently aren’t using a compression sack. This stuff sack is very durable and much higher quality than original sacks that usually come with gear. It is highly recommended and has a 75 percent 5-star rating on Amazon.

Worthy Comparison

There are many other manufacturers of compression sacks. Two of which are the Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil and the Kelty Compression Stuff Sacks. The Sea to Summit also features a durable nylon ripstop “cordura” abrasion, tear and scuff resistant material which makes it comparable to the Alp Mountaineering.

With features like extra small to extra-large options, ultra-lightweight, and four webbing cinch straps to compress everything once this bag is filled. The Kelty Compression Stuff Sack, on the other hand, is made of lightweight nylon; it also includes a hidden storage pocket, is water resistant and comes with four quick-release compression straps. The Kelty also comes in four sizes from small to extra-large and is the least expensive option.

Both the Alps Mountaineering and the Sea to Summit are about the same price although Sea to Summit is about $3 more for the same size.

Final Word On The ALPS Mountaineering Compression Sleeping Bag Stuff Sack

In summary, both the Alp Mountaineering and the Sea to Summit are made of a durable tear-resistant material while the Kelty is made up of water-resistant Nylon. The Sea to Summit appears to be about 50% lighter than the Alps Mountaineering, and the Kelty sack has no information about its weight.

Size is important so you’ll want to select the proper size for your purposes. If you’re simply using the stuff sack for clothing you may want to consider the small sack but, if you’re using it for your Marmot 0-degree Gamma Sleeping Bag you may want to consider the medium size. Both the Alps Mountaineering and the Sea to Summit small size are 7×16 inch while the Kelty small measures 6×12 inches. The Kelty medium size is more comparable to the small size of the other two coming in at 8×15 inches.

ALPS Mountaineering Compression Sleeping Bag

They all come with plastic quick release compression buckles for easy opening. The biggest difference is that the Alps Mountaineering comes with additional features. It has an additional exterior zippered pocket which is perfect for holding small additional items that you don’t want to lose at the bottom of your backpack, and that you may need to get quickly.

Alps Mountaineering also has a bottom handle with D-rings. The handle and D-rings makes it very convenient for attaching to the outside of your backpack to tie it down and keep it secure. It also comes with double-stitched seams making it stronger at the seams where these types of compression bags seem to consistently fail.

You could spend more and you could spend less but if you want to get a compression stuff sack at a great value that will last, consider purchasing the Alps Mountaineering Compression Stuff Sack.
